I don't think you ever really get over your first love, and I don't think you are supposed to. Part of it is that it's just hard to let go of someone who was such a milestone. Part of it is a subconscious need to retain everything we learned from this, our first and arguably most important romantic relationship, because it forms the basis of our knowledge of romantic love. The biggest part, however, is needing to retain the memory of what it feels like to be in love. Most of us are going to keep searching for that feeling again until we find it, and that memory may be the only thing that keeps us from giving up. |
